Many good ideas were generated at this meeting. In general it it looks as though the development of more social spaces was important as well as an expansion of activities that allow people to teach and share skills. The self defense classes have been an excellent example of this and it sounds like this is something people would like to see more of.
Another area where people felt a need was in the area of support for SOFFAs and especially partners. Much of the need around SOFFA issues related to a need to be viewed as beyond a relationship. In other words to be seen as independent members of the community and not simply an extension of their partner. Related to this concern was a desire to have a space available for SOFFAs to connect with each other. Much of this need was expressed in relationship to partners but could realistically be expanded to express a need that other SOFFAs may feel as well. Connected to this was the need for informational space for SOFFAs - especially for family members of Trans individuals.
There was also discussion of modifying the format of meetings to allow for partners to split off for discussions of their own in a separate setting. This could occur for the entire meeting or for part of the meeting.
The expansion of medical resources for the Trans community was also mentioned. There are medical providers who are trans supportive and who are experienced and able to provide quality competent healthcare but who for any number of reasons are unable or would prefer not to be listed on the listing put out by the MN Trans Health Coalition. The development of an "underground" listing was discussed as a possible solution to this. It would be an available, but not publicly posted, listing of medical providers that could expand the available healthcare options.
